I'm Terrie!
I'm a Virtual Assistant, just minding my own business (and yours!) based in a village just outside of Nottingham, East Midlands, UK.
I live with my partner, Stephen and we've got two dogs - see below! - Marley & Missy (both of which never do as they're told 🙄) and love amateur photography, anything chocolate-orange flavoured and a lovely cuppa tea.
Like you, I am a small business owner. I don't have any other staff to rely on and I work from home - but being as I'm 'Virtual', I can work from pretty much anywhere!
After a combined 7.5 years of experience serving the public in two different emergency services, and having had roles in retail, sales, hospitality, NFT community engagement and the entertainment sector, I have developed a wide range of skills!
Some of the industries I have worked in have been high-pressure, with a large workload or stressful environments. They have helped me become an organised, diligent, and efficient person, but most importantly of all, they have helped me realise how much time we spend at work and not with our loved ones. My partner and I rarely shared a day off together, to walk the dogs or go out for dinner. I barely saw my family.
In July 2022, I decided I wanted to start building my own business as a VA, part-time initially, with a view to it *hopefully* becoming something a little more permanent. Well, Feb 2023 I finally took the plunge, left my job and decided to dedicate my time to helping UK-based small business owners or SME owners with their business headaches, and enabling them to outsource time-zapping tasks!
In today's world, work has a habit of spilling into our home lives - whether that's being on your phone when you should be spending quality time with loved ones or "quickly" sending that email you forgot to send before you leave the office and end up being late, again! 😬
Small business owners have to work extra hard to keep their businesses going; they only have themselves to count on. Your time is your money - so it's hard not to feel like you have to be switched on constantly. It's taken me a while to find the true meaning of work/life balance but it's something I want you to be able to achieve.
And don't forget, I'M A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER TOO! I too, have to do all the STUFF that comes with owning a business - emails, socials, client calls, invoicing, website maintenance etc...
But being a freelance VA enables me to spend time with my loved ones, walk my dogs and keep up to date on the latest Netflix series (guilty pleasure!).
It benefits you, too. It enables you to offload those tasks you don't want to do, giving you more freedom, brain space and hours in the day.
